What is Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, Peak performance and individual care’ – CNHC

Nutritional therapy can be used for enhancing overall health and wellbeing, or for those suffering with poor health.

As a nutritional therapist, I take the whole person into account to firstly identify any underlying imbalances & the root cause of their presenting symptoms. Functional testing may be advised to assist with this.

Nutritional therapy is unique and individual to each person. Therefore, no two nutritional & lifestyle plans will be the same. Rather than focusing on presenting symptoms in isolation, the person is viewed as a whole, with each body system reviewed.

The first line of action is always to address the diet, by increasing or removing foods to ensure correct nutrients are available to suit the individuals needs. However, sometimes supplements may also be needed to achieve optimum health.

When appropriate, nutritional therapy can be used alongside conventional medicine, and clear communication between practitioner and GPs or consultants is key.

As a naturopath, I combine both nutrition with other naturopathic therapies such as Bach flower remedies, tissue salts and herbal medicine. I work inline with the naturopathic thinking that the body has its own self- healing mechanisms, and prevention is better than cure.

Who will benefit from Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy can benefit those with underlying chronic health conditions, from autoimmune conditions to cardiovascular health or Fibromyalgia. It can also help those who are struggling with ongoing symptoms that they can’t get an answer or solution to.

The following symptoms can be supported through nutritional therapy.

  • Digestive symptoms such as IBS, acid reflux, bloating
  • Weight management
  • Skin conditions, asthma & allergies
  • Headaches & migraines
  • Stress & fatigue
